Ukraine is suffering from inhumane conditions as a result of the ongoing war. Just two years ago, these same individuals lived peaceful lives, akin to ours, surrounded by a well-functioning community infrastructure and taking basic necessities such as healthcare, food, and warmth for granted.
Due to Russia's military aggression, the situation has drastically changed. Bombings, death, and destruction have become commonplace, and civilians are suffering as a result. Emergency services, hospitals, and medical units in the Ukrainian defense lack important and life-saving equipment. It is because of this that Tor Fredrik Müller and Paal Christian Mowinckel sought to find a way to help, leading to the formation of HMM Helsehjelp Ukraina.
Müller and Mowinckel reached out to Haukeland University Hospital (HUS) to explore opportunities for supporting medical equipment. Additionally, the business community in Bergen, various foundations, the public sector, and many individuals all rallied to provide support to HMM Helsehjelp Ukraina.
Following an overwhelming response, the emergency aid initiative HMM Helsehjelp Ukraina became a reality, and vital aid and equipment have been and continue to besent to Ukraine. The war is ongoing, and the suffering among both civilians and military personnel is increasing. Reports indicate that the need for such items as basic sanitary products, first aid equipment, medical equipment to treat the injured, clothing for the soldiers, and combat rations is only growing. The need for help is greater now than ever, and it is urgent.
We are very grateful for all the support that we receive. As part of our ongoing fundraising campaigns, we accept both financial contributions and donations of equipment.
We also want to make contact with associations and organizations that would like to channel health aid to Ukraine through HMM Helsehjelp Ukraina.
One important reason why Ukrainians are able to keep their spirits up is due to the support of the international community. HMM Helsehjelp Ukraina, together with their supporters, will actively contribute as long as Ukraine needs help.

Our goal is to procure essential and life-saving equipment for Ukraine without costly intermediaries. The aid we procure is then sent directly to the front lines in Ukraine.
We achieve this through:
HMM does not involve itself in weapons or weapon-related aid.
Behind the HMM Helsehjelp Ukraina project are the following people and institutions: (HMM = Haukeland, Müller, Mowinckel)
Initiators:
Müller and Mowinckel manage and market the project/initiative, Mowinckel (Univest AS) provides free warehouse space centrally located in Bergen, and Müller organizes the transportation from Bergen to Ukraine. In addition to providing free warehouse space and substantial contributions to equipment transportation, Müller and Mowinckel are the driving forces behind fundraising efforts among supportive members of the business community and private individuals.
Medical advisor:
Anna Tribis is an orthopedic surgeon, born and raised in Ukraine. She maintains close contact with former classmates working at various hospitals in Ukraine and with a division of the Ukrainian defense actively engaged in the conflict. She communicates the needs from Ukraine to the rest of the team for assessment and reports back on how HMM Helsehjelp Ukraine can contribute.
Helse Bergen Haukeland universitetssjukehus (HUS)
Camilla Skjelbred coordinates the procurement of equipment and provides administrative support to the project. Through the Department for International Cooperation (AIS), HUS has extensive experience with both emergency aid and long-term collaboration with health actors abroad, primarily in Africa and Asia.
AIS handles the project's accounting and keeps track of the equipment purchased. As the equipment is purchased through HUS, HMM Helsehjelp Ukraina benefits from favorable purchasing prices.
AIS maintains a strong relationship with the Navy's medical service through anesthesiologist/military medical officer Ivar Austlid. Austlid, who has experience in first aid in combat situations, advises the group and ensures the quality of the equipment acquired and sent.
All parties involved in the project cover their own administrative costs, ensuring that all collected funds are used entirely for the purchase of essential and life-saving equipment for various hospitals in Ukraine and for the medical units of the Ukrainian defense.
